- Graduated as a doctor in 1977 from the University of Sri Lanka
- Trained as an ophthalmologist in the UK between 1982 and 1992.
- Obtained the Diploma of Ophthalmology of RCS of England in 1985.
- Became a fellow of both the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists of England in 1991.
- Entered the GMC specialist list for ophthalmology in 1996.
- Has held consultant posts in Bridgend (South Wales), the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch (West Midlands) and the Military Hospital in Saudi Arabia

Took up his current position as sole Consultant Ophthalmologist at St Bernard’s Hospital Gibraltar in 1995
- He is a general ophthalmologist with a special interest in Medical Retina and Anterior Segment Surgery.
- He was the founding doctor of the modern ophthalmic service currently available in Gibraltar.
- He introduced phacoemulsification cataract surgery for the first time in late 1990’s.
- Has been instrumental in the development of the local primary care ophthalmic services which are now available to entitled patients in Gibraltar.
