Barry MonkBarry Monk 

Dr Barry Monk, MA, MB, FRCP, Consultant dermatologist

Dr Monk is a visiting Consultant dermatologist from Bedford. 

He qualified in medicine from Cambridge University and Westminster Medical School.  He then trained in dermatology in London, and has been a consultant dermatologist in the UK for 25 years. He is a past President of the Section of Dermatology of the Royal Society of Medicine, and has been an examiner for the MRCP examination.

Dr Monk has contributed to a number of medical textbooks, and has written over 50 papers in medical journals.

He has a special interest in skin cancer and its prevention, and in the treatment of psoriasis and eczema.

 

 

Monique RissoMonique Risso

Dr Risso qualified from Leeds University Medical School and joined the Vocational Training Scheme for General Practitioners at Airedale General Hospital in Yorkshire, where she gained experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Accident and Emergency and Psychiatry, all essential to General Practice. She worked in Settle and Ilkley as a General Practitioner Registrar, before returning to Gibraltar. In Gibraltar she worked at the Primary Care Centre for seven years, providing General Practice services to the local community. In 2010 she travelled to Sydney, Australia and Omaha, Nebraska to train in NaProTechnology and the Creighton Model FertilityCare System.

Dr Risso is pleased to be working alongside Dr Nerney in this exciting new venture to offer General Practice Services for all ages. This will include acute and chronic disease management, travel advice and vaccinations, well man and well woman checks. She will also be providing general woman health and reproductive services with NaPro Technology.

Ramin PakzadRamin Pakzad

Dr Pakzad graduated from Medical School in Berlin, Germany form 1987 – 1993.  He then went on to qualify as a Consultant Gynaecologist and Obstetrician in Hannover, Germany from 1993-2000 where he performed a number of surgical interventions, focussing on gynaecological oncology, breast care, peri-natalcentre as well as the entire spectrum of open surgery and tumour breast surgery.

From 2000, Dr Pakzad has been Director and Chief Gynaecologist and Obstetrician in Clinica Ginecologica, Banus, Marbella, Spain.  A range of gynaecological treatments (conservative and surgical), minimal invasive/major surgery, gynaecologicaloncology and obstetrics is offered.

At Specialist Medical Clinic, Dr Pakzad performs both obstetric and gynaecological scans as well breast scans as part of our commitment to breast care.

 

Thomas BoergerThomas Boerger

Mr Boerger completed his medical training in Berlin in 1990, and moved to the UK for his higher surgical training in orthopaedic surgery.

Mr Boerger completed his Orthopaedıc and Trauma Specıalıst Traınıng wıth Imperıal College London, and then he undertook a number of overseas fellowships at the North Sydney Orthopaedic and Sports medicine unit, The Calvary Hip and Knee Unit Canberra, and the First Orthopaedic Clinic at the University of Florence.  In 2006 he was appointed Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at St Bernard’s Hospital in Gibraltar.  He currently runs a busy walk-in orthopaedic and trauma service and an active medico-legal practice.

His major interests are Knee ligament reconstruction, Knee and hip joint replacement and Trauma surgery.

Laurence Stewart - GibraltarLaurence Stewart

Mr Laurence Stewart is a UK based visiting Consultant Urological Surgeon and a member of:

  • Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh
  • Member of the British Medical Association
  • Member of the British Association of Urological Surgeons
  • Member of International Continence Society

His clinical interests are in reconstructive urology and urinary incontinence.

He is a member of Scientific Committee of International Continence Society 2009 – 2013 and was Chairman 2011.

He is the Co-Chair Section of Lichen Sclerosis in Urethral disease: for the International Consultation on Urological Disease (ICUD)

Ammar AlhassoAmmar Alhasso

Mr Alhasso gained wide urological experience through the East Scotland Urology Training Scheme and took up his current post as a Consultant Urological Surgeon at the Western General Hospital and Borders General Hospital, He provides both general urology expertise and sub-specialisation in female urology, urodynamics and reconstructive urology. 

He was a research fellow at Imperial College School of Medicine, University of London studying bladder cancer and achieved a Masters degree in Surgical Sciences in 2000. He is also a reviewer for the Cochrane Collaboration/Incontinence group and have published systematic reviews and meta-analyses on urinary incontinence in men and women. 

A member of the International Continence Society, European Association of Urology and the British Association of Urological Surgeons.  With commitment to training and education, Mr Alhasso is the urology module organiser for undergraduates and module lead for the new online ChM postgraduate degree in Urology at Edinburgh University Medical School and also teaches on the core skills for urologist course at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Patrick NerneyPatrick Nerney

Dr Nerney trained in Cardiff, Qualified 1975 MBBCh.  He undertook his formal Post graduate GP training in Paediatrics, Obstetrics, Gynaecology, Geriatrics, Psychiatry, A&E and in General Practice from 1975 - 1979. He worked as a GP in the UK 1979- 80. Subsequently He worked as a GP in Gibraltar Government primary care services from 1980 to retirement in 2011. During this time he was Co-ordinator of Gibraltar Health Authority (GHA) Primary Care from 2003 - 2008 and GP Lead from 2008 - 2011.

His special interests include Cardiovascular Diseases and Diabetes.  His work background has given Dr Nerney a vast experience in most areas of community and family medicine.

At Specialist Medical Clinic, Dr Nerney provides the usual range of primary medical care plus well man checks, travel immunisation and also Joint/soft tissue assessment and injections.  He is currently developing an expertise in occupational medicine.

Francisca Dominguez

Francisca Dominguez

Dr Dominguez qualified as a doctor in 1992 at the University of Cadiz.  She then undertook her Paediatric qualification in Cadiz and the UK.  She completed her higher professional training in 2002.

Dr Dominguez ran a highly successful private practice and a Consultant Paediatrician in Algeciras between 2007 and 2014.

Dr Dominguez offers a comprehensive paediatric service for both acute and chronic conditions.  She is experienced in all aspects of paediatric care from breast feeding, growth and development issues, vaccinations and all medical conditions through to teenage adolescence.

Doctor Dominguez holds daily clinics, Monday to Friday.

Andrew Birnie Gibraltar 

Andrew Birnie

Dr Birnie is a consultant dermatologist specialising in skin surgery whose NHS practice is based at the Kent & Canterbury and William Harvey Hospitals. He chairs the East Kent Skin Cancer Multidisciplinary Team which comprises dermatologists, maxillofacial and plastic surgeons, oncologists and nurses. He studied medicine at the University of Bristol, which was followed by two years in London and five years of Dermatology training in Nottingham. There he discovered a passion for dermatological surgery and subsequently was selected for a fellowship in dermatological surgery at the Welsh Institute of Dermatology in Cardiff where he increased his repertoire of complex closures following the excision of skin cancers and learnt how to perform Mohs micrographic surgery.

Dr Birnie is constantly looking for new skills and techniques, and has travelled widely to gain experience, including to California and Italy, as well as nationally. He is also passionate about teaching; he lectures and demonstrates on surgical workshops nationally and internationally and conducts online dermatology tutorials to a worldwide audience through the University of Cardiff where he is an honorary tutor.

He returned to Kent in May 2011 following a year spent in Durban, South Africa where he is an honorary senior lecturer at the Nelson R Mandela School of Medicine. In Durban he set up a skin cancer centre, offering free treatment for those who could not afford care, from which he trained the local dermatologists in both basic and advanced skin cancer surgery and also set up the first recognised Mohs micrographic surgery service in the country.

Dr Birnie is comfortable looking after all ages and all dermatological conditions and is happy removing all cutaneous lesions from benign moles to facial skin cancers.

 James Shelley Gibraltar

Dr James Shelley BSc, MB BS, MRCS (Ed), MRCP (UK), DTM&H

Consultant dermatologist, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London.

Dr Shelley is a consultant dermatologist at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London where he has practiced since 2010. His specialist training was at a number of centres of excellence in the UK including St. John’s Institute for Dermatology and King’s College Hospital in London, Southampton University Hospitals and the Royal Victoria Hospital in Newcastle. He has expertise in managing general dermatology skin disorders (eg rashes, moles, acne, eczema, psoriasis, skin infections) and has a special interest in skin surgery and managing and screening for skin cancers. He leads the Mohs Micrographic Surgery service at Chelsea and Westminster and is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College, London where he leads the undergraduate dermatology course.

Dr Waji Hassan, MB, MD, FRCP 

Consultant Rheumatologist, University Hospital Leicester, UK.

Dr Hassan became a Consultant Rheumatologist in 1994. He has a dual accreditation for Rheumatology and General Medicine from the GMC UK.  He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London. He is a member of the Midlands Rheumatology society. He is head of research for the musculoskeletal disorders for Comprehensive Local Research Network [CLRN] for the East Midlands of UK. He has published in peer review journals and has also co authored a book on Rheumatology and pain management.
 

He treats patients with;

  •  Inflammatory arthritis including Rheumatoid arthritis and Psoriatic arthritis
  • Connective Tissue disorders such as SLE
  • Osteoarthritis, Polymyalgia Rheumatica and Fibromyalgia
  • Gout, Osteoporosis, shoulder pain and other soft tissue disorders such as Tennis elbow and heel pain

In his leisure time he enjoys playing golf, cycling and flying single engine aeroplane.

Dr. Eva Carneiro

 

Dr. Eva Carneiro is a Sports Medicine Specialist and was one of the first eight pioneering doctors recruited nationally to the Sports and Exercise Medicine Specialist Training Programme.

Qualifying from Nottingham in 1999, Dr. Carneiro worked in the New South Wales Institute of Sport in Sydney and at the Olympic Medical Institute in the build-up to the Beijing Olympics. She then completed her research in Football Hydration for her Masters Degree in Sports Medicine at West Ham United.

She worked full-time at Chelsea Football Club from 2009-2015. During her four seasons as First Team doctor, the team was successful in winning Champions League, Premier League, Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup titles. During her six and a half years with the team, she worked with a total of seven elite international football managers and is credited with the highest player availability rates for any team in the English Premier
League. She is the first woman to sit on a team bench pitch-side in Champions League, Premier League and Europa League competitions and the only woman to become Assistant Medical Director in a football club internationally.

Dr. Carneiro is a consultant to the Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital in Qatar in the build up to the 2022 FIFA World Cup and works as a Specialist Consultant in The Sports Medical Group at 68 Harley Street.

She is a founding member of “Proud of Africa”, a campaign to promote awareness and education in Africa about the effect of poaching and the established link between poverty, infant mortality and wildlife eradication.
