Anxiety Disorders

There are several different types of Anxiety Disorders that patients could be suffering from. Our therapist will help you to discover which disorder they are suffering from and form the most appropriate way to deal with it.

  • Generalized anxiety disorder

This is characterized by chronic anxiety, exaggerated worry and tension even when there is little to provoke it. Signs of this can often be detected in symptoms such as recurring headaches, irritability, sweating, twitching and several others.

  • Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)

This is characterized by recurrent unwanted thoughts and images (obsession) and repetitive behaviors (compulsions). Signs of this are often seen in the need to perform particular rituals like washing hands, counting and others. These rituals typically provide immediate and temporary relief.

  • Panic disorder

This is characterized by unexpected and repeated episodes of intense fear accompanied by physical symptoms that may include chest pains, shortness of breath, heart palpitations and other symptoms that seem to simulate a heart attack.

  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

This type of anxiety disorder develops from exposure to horrific events or repeated ordeal in which grand scale physical harm is incurred or witnessed. PTSD is often triggered by violent personal assaults natural disaster, accidents and other horrific events. People with PTSD experience persistent frightening thoughts, memories and feel emotionally detached, numb and easily triggered.

  • Social Phobia

This is typically characterized by overwhelming anxiety in everyday social situations. Social phobia can be limited to only one type of situation for example the fear of public speaking. In more severe forms, people may experience these anxious symptoms almost anytime they are around other people. People experience persistent intense fear of being judged or humiliated. This fear can get in the way of everyday activity such as work or school.
